Foresight Engineering evaluated the need to drastically improve the safety of the blood supply by introducing modern, state-of-the-art technology to hospitals and blood banks in a two-phase project. During the first phase of the blood bank management project, state of the art technology was supplied to a number of centres to improve the blood banking services. New technology such as frozen red cell storage, cord blood banking, as well as networking and computerized data managements were introduced for the National Blood Transfusion Services.
The second phase of the project consisted of implementing six regional and thirteen cluster/level two blood banks with the necessary infrastructure and the facilities of 66 other blood banks were improved with equipment that caters to the growing demand of blood in Sri Lanka.
The project was backed by M/S.Simed International BV, Netherlands
66 blood banks were upgraded around the country.
The project was completed by 2016
